Before leaving Laos, the Mekong spreads fourteen kilometres wide and shatters into an archipelago. Don Det runs on hammock time; Don Khon keeps a rusting French railway and a pod of Irrawaddy dolphins in its channel. Wi-fi is optional and so is urgency.
